Have you ever sat in a restaurant with a very long menu and it’s taken you too long to decide on your meal? — This is what investing feels like. The only difference is that every option is very complicated and I need hours if not days to fully understand how they work and if they’d be a good fit for me. Here are some of the options I’ve looked at recently. This is meant as a personal account and opinion, not financial advice. Consult your financial advisor before investing.

Real Estate

This asset class comes in so many varieties that many investors specialize in distinct strategies and never look further. I’ve listened to podcast on short-term rentals (AirBnB), mid-term rentals (furnished apartments for traveling professionals) and long-term rentals (traditional rentals). Then there is another dimension to consider. Do you buy, rehab and rent the property yourself? Or do you use services to do all or some of the above?

  • Short-term rentals: AirBnBs have been all the rage during the last decade or so. As the experience of renting AirBnBs has declined and the market has become very saturated, never mind the risk that some cities will regulate the market, I am not a fan.
